Ujjal Dosanjh was born in 1947 in Dosanjh Kalan village of Jalandhar District in Punjab. He grew up hearing stories from his grandfather about Kamagatu Maru, the gurdwara reform movement and about Mahatma Gandhi and Nehru.
He will share his own story with a reading from his book “Journey After Midnight: India, Canada, and the Road Beyond”, at 8pm, Sat. May 13, at the Arts Centre in Sechelt. The bestselling autobiography details his life from rural India to his journey into the upper echelons of Canadian politics.
From his humble beginnings, Dosanjh became a Vancouver lawyer, social activist, and parliamentarian. He served as the NDP premier of BC (2000-2001) before entering federal politics as a Liberal MP and cabinet minister (2004-2011.) Submitted
