It was National Girls Learning Code Day and two dozen girls aged 8 to 12, were concentrating on the task Nov. 12 at Capilano University in Sechelt. Writing code refers to creating the sequence of instructions that gets a computer to perform a task, and it is a job that has been dominated by males. In this case, the girls used a programing language called Scratch, with help from volunteers who work in the tech industry. In the centre are Nardeen Ibrahim (with the flower) and her mother Rita Rihani. The sold-out workshop was sponsored the SCTechHub.ca, Capilano U, and the Community Resource Centre.
