Two shíshálh artists show off the gift of a friendship blanket, on display in the lobby of the SCRD’s administration office. Weaver Jessica Silvey, left, wove the blanket and wood worker Shain Jackson created the display case. The design of the blanket begins with four inches of twined weaving on each end of the blanket, as a base, with the main body being woven with a Cherokee basket weave pattern called “Unbroken Friendship”. “I have chosen this design, as to me it represents the journey that we all need to take together towards reconciliation,” said Silvey. The blanket was commissioned by the syiyaya Reconciliation Movement. Submitted photo
