A reconfigured Gibsons Library re-opens

new tracy therrienWelcome back. On August 27 the Gibsons & District Public Library re-opened after a two-week closure to complete a space reconfiguration project. As the final touches were being completed on opening day members lined up outside the Library doors, excited to view the changes. Since that day, feedback has been overwhelmingly positive and though the changes didn’t include expanding the existing Library footprint, many people have commented on how much larger and spacious the Library now feels. We are still working on the final touches but we’re OPEN and happy to be offering all our regular services.

Thank you to everyone that helped out during this process; we couldn’t have done it without the hard work of staff and volunteers. Thank you also to the Gibsons Library Foundation, Sunshine Coast Community Foundation, Sunshine Coast Credit Union and Sunshine Coast Regional District for their contributions to the project. After the dust settles from the renovations and staff and volunteers get accustomed to the new space a re-opening celebration is planned. Before then, come in and check out the renovated space; we would love to hear your comments.

We have a lot of programs on offer this month, including our fantastic Word on the Water event on Saturday, Sept. 24. Come and join the Gibsons and Sechelt public libraries for storytime on BC Ferries sailings. When was the last time someone read you a story?

Weekly story time sessions for infants and preschoolers also return in September. Every Wednesday (beginning Sept. 21) from 11am-noon join us for Preschool Storytime a free weekly drop-in program for 2-5 year olds and their caregivers. On Thursdays (beginning Sept .22) the sessions are for infants and their caregivers and run from 10-11am.

Activities for tweens and teens include a movie night on Sept. 30 at 6pm and book club on Sept. 20 at 3:30pm.

A number of adult programs are also taking place in September including our ongoing language, knitting and book club groups plus author visits including Sachi Komura Rummel author of “Hiroshima: Memoirs of a Survivor” on Sept. 21 at 6p.m.
