A total of 53 candidates are running for elected office on the Sunshine Coast in the Nov. 15 B.C. municipal elections.
Fifteen candidates are seeking the six councillor positions in Sechelt, while nine are vying for the four council seats in Gibsons.
Five of the candidates were the only ones to file papers for their positions by the Oct. 10 deadline and will be acclaimed, including Sechelt school trustees Christine Younghusband and Dave Mewhort, and SCRD Area “A” school trustee Lori Pratt. Younghusband is also running for Sechelt mayor.
Also acclaimed will be Sunshine Coast Regional District Director Frank Mauro in Area A (Egmont/Pender Harbour) and Director Garry Nohr in Area B (Halfmoon Bay).
Silas White was the only other candidate besides Younghusband running for two offices in the election. White is seeking election as a Gibsons councillor, but has withdrawn his simultaneous candidacy for school trustee and said he is instead endorsing candidate Pammila Ruth.
