During a visit to her husband’s native country of Peru, Chavarri marvelled at the soft, luxurious, yet durable fabrics the locals created. She was inspired to develop partnerships with small-scale, family-owned suppliers that use fair-trade, environmentally friendly practices. It’s a win-win situation, as her business promotes fair wages and good working conditions for Peruvian families and their employees.

Chavarri explains that “the word Boské comes from the Spanish word bosque, which means forest.” This name reflects Chavarri’s desire to keep her products as earth-friendly as possible, by using organic, healthy, chemical-free materials such as hypoallergenic baby alpaca wool (warmer and less prickly than sheep’s wool), super-soft and stain-resistant Peruvian pima cotton, and vegetable-based dyes—and it also celebrates the magic and beauty of our West Coast forests, where our young people (and the young at heart!) love to explore, imagine, and grow. Chavarri’s vision is to create “natural-fibre clothing for babies and toddlers that is practical, simple, yet elegant in style, allowing children to be happy, playful, and comfortable while providing parents, grandparents, and family with the confidence that their little ones are wearing natural and safe clothing.”
