Do-Re-TEA! Concert Series kicks off

Do-Re-TEA! is a refreshing series of afternoon concerts. After the concert, ticket holders will be treated to an afternoon cream tea with homemade scones and strawberry jam
In the first concert on April 26 you can experience a feast for your soul with the unique duo, Golden Echo. World-class professionals, Valerie-Anne Rutter and Richard Austin bring nourishment and inspiration to their audience with an eclectic banquet of sounds from piano and recorder paired with spoken word. You will savor poetry and music with items ranging from Bach to The Beatles and from Shakespeare to Bob Dylan. The whole is greater than the sum of the parts in this original blend.
Richard Austin trained as an actor in London, England, and worked professionally for over ten years on stage and in television. He appeared in the Driftwood Players production of The Drawer Boy as Morgan. Austin specializes in performing the poetry of Gerard Manley Hopkins and travels internationally to perform at Hopkins conferences. His CD of Hopkins’ verses have been well received. He also writes poetry and prose and often performs his own compositions.
Val Rutter has enjoyed an extensive performing career in Europe and North America appearing as soloist with several orchestras, including The English String Orchestra. She made her London debut at St. Martin-in-the-Fields, Trafalgar Square, has given twenty world premieres and collaborated in many master classes with great artists including Jaqueline du Pré. Val has given recitals in countless concert series and major music festivals, recorded for Nimbus, commissioned many new works and broadcast on radio and television. In Canada she is often heard on CBC radio in her duo, Gemini, with her identical twin sister, Julie. Val feels very blessed to make her home on the beautiful Sunshine Coast where she teaches students from ages 6 to 86.
The concerts will be held at 3 pm on the last Friday of April, May and June. They will be held in Davis Bay at Living Faith Lutheran Church, an intimate space with excellent acoustics. Tickets are $20 and available at Laedeli in Sunnycrest Mall, Visitor Info Centre in Sechelt and at the Bluewater Books in Madeira Park.
