Open water swimmer Rachel Schoeler bravely left Nanaimo early today, and began carving the waves across the Strait of Georgia toward Sechelt.
“Rachel left this morning at 8 am and is looking strong!” supporter, Brittany Barnes said by e-mail. Schoeler’s crossing is expected to take around 11 hours, which should have her arriving at Mission Point near Davis Bay by 7 pm this evening.
Schoeler is swimming the Strait to raise money and awareness about water pollution through the organization Fraser Riverkeepers, where she volunteers.
Due to strong winds earlier in the month, the ‘swimmable water’ advocate postponed her swim planned for August 3.
