Gibsons’ B.C. Day tuned up by Music in the Landing hot picks

B.C. Day weekend there was a major showing of talent at Gibsons Landing from presenters Music in the Landing. These groups drew happy crowds to the Landing stages and gave things a major celebration feeling. Among the hot picks were Axel Loitz and Connor Lindsay on guitar with vocals on Friday afternoon at Gibsons Public Market. Friday on the Gibsons wharf, ‘Sostenuto’, the duo of Anna Lumiere and Serena Eades performing tangos and choros on playing accordion, piano and violin along with French musette to folk melodies. Saturday morning recently graduated young musicians Maya Broeke, violin was joined by guitarist Aren Ludlow.
Saturday Waterfront Park hosted internationally renowned composer and guitarist, Itamar Erez, direct from Israel, blending the delicateness of Middle Eastern music, the freedom found in jazz and the passion of Flamenco. Saturday evening saw recently returned from Montreal, Graham Ord on sax, flute, Anna Lumiere on piano and Celso Machado, percussion sharing their versions of well known and original tunes.
Sunday the ‘Billy Hillpicker Band’ livened up the Sun Dial Stage next to the Gibsons Sunday Market with their vocal harmonies, guitars, banjos, violin and a whole lot of fun from Tyrel Mullock, Murray Wilson, John Lepore and Gord Beynon.
Monday to celebrate B.C. Day they had a very special treat in Winegarden Park with singer/songwriter Katherine Penfold being joined by Jodi Proznick on acoustic bass and Miles Black on piano and guitar, who were also well-received at the Landing Jazz Festival in June.
