Please mark your calendars for the weekend of August 16-18 when the Pender Harbour Chamber Music Festival celebrates its 15th anniversary of bringing fine music to the Music School in Madeira Park. This year will be very special. We’ve commissioned an anniversary composition by Toronto musician and composer Graham Campbell; the piece will be premiered during the Saturday afternoon concert, performed by the New Zealand String Quartet, celebrated clarinettist James Campbell (Graham’s father!), pianist (and Festival Artistic Director) Alexander Tselyakov, and Graham, on guitar.
What else can audiences expect? The Festival opens with a free concert on the afternoon of Friday, August 16th, performed by a selection of Festival musicians. Four ticketed concerts follow on Friday evening, Saturday afternoon and evening, and Sunday afternoon. As well as those musicians premiering Graham Campbell’s commissioned composition, we will welcome Evan Hesketh, viola, Dylan Palmer, double bass, Christie Reside, flute, and Daniel Tselyakov, piano. The weekend will truly offer something for everyone, from an arrangement of George Gershwin’s iconic “Rhapsody in Blue,” to Mozart, Brahms, and Mendelssohn, as well as Shostakovich, Janáček, and much more.
The Pender Harbour Chamber Music Festival is made possible by the generosity of our Friends of the Festival, a supportive community, and a loyal team of volunteers. Watch for our brochures later this spring. Our website—www.penderharbourmusic.ca—will also be updated with ticket information and programme details as we approach the summer. We look forward to welcoming you to the Festival!
