Supporting RCMSAR

Search and rescue members took a pair of Sechelt councillors out on Porpoise Bay Oct.23 to acquaint them with the funding challenges of RCMSAR units.  They get federal funding for fuel when called out, but all other expenses – including vessel purchase and safety gear – have to be raised locally. Sechelt has provided some support, and Unit 12 (Halfmoon Bay) will hold their primary public fundraiser – a $30 beer and burger night – at the Lighthouse Pub in Sechelt Nov. 7, 5-9pm. Left to right are Randal Eistetter, Unit 12 station leader, Councillors Matt McLean and Alton Toth, and Bart Porebski, chief coxswain of Unit 12. Connie Jordison photo
