The Gibsons Public Library is offering a new story-writing program this year for kids entering kindergarten, grade 1 or grade 2.

In it, “little buddies” will be matched with “big buddies” (grades 6 & up) to compose and illustrate their own picture book. Little buddies will have the option of having their stories read in the summer reading club, taking their story home, or possibly having their story submitted to the library collection.

The program runs on Wednesdays, July 11 through Aug. 8, 10-10:45am.

Pre-registration at 604-886-2130 is required for this program as spaces will be limited. Drop-ins are welcome only if there is space available. Participants will have the option of staying through to 12:30 pm so they can join the summer reading club after their Story Buddies session.

And for fantasy game-loving kids who have finished grades 5 & up, the library is offering Dice & Dragons drop-in on alternate Thursdays (July 19, Aug. 2, 16 and 30) 1-4pm.

Gather some friends to play Dungeons & Dragons, Magic-The Gathering or other fantasy games in the library’s air-conditioned community room. Bring your own games if you have them, or come learn from other players.
