Local Grade 12 student and Sechelt musician Malcolm Ireland is competing in a National contest in the hopes to land a scholarship at Nimbus recording school in Vancouver. The contest asks participants to choose one of three songs by major label artists and to create their own mix using the original tracks or “stems” of the songs. The person who gets the most votes will receive a $10,000 scholarship to the prestigious recording school under the guidance of such legendary record producers as GGGarth Richardson and Bob Ezrin. Malcolm has been a musician since the age of 8, but only in the last few years has he made it his focus, in large part through learning about songwriting and recording with local studio owner and musician Steve Weave at the Sound Studio in Sechelt. The contest is open until the end of May, and Malcolm is hoping the community will rally behind him and take a moment to go to nimbusmixcontest.ca and click the “entries” tab, scroll down and vote for his track!
