As president of the Coast Community Builders Association (CCBA), it is my pleasure to invite the Sunshine Coast to enjoy an electrifying Home and Cottage Show on Saturday, June 14 at the Gibsons and Area Community Centre. From the time the doors open at 10 a.m. until we start to shut down at 5 p.m., exhibitors, entertainment, door prizes, demonstrations and displays offer fun for the whole family. On-site food concessions by Wheatberries Bakery, Ty’s Fine Foods and the Wandering Wonders Ice Cream truck will help visitors keep up their strength. The theme is “Energized by Community” and during the show – which has grown to be the largest single-day event on the Coast – the community will be energized by the innovative work being done by our CCBA members. Admission is free, but a donation for the Sunshine Coast food banks will be welcome.

We’re pretty excited that our event sponsors Coast Cable and Olsen Electric came on board to help make this possible, and particularly pleased to commend Sunshine Coast Credit Union. For the fourth straight year, the SCCU (a real community catalyst) signed on as a Platinum-level sponsor. Over the years in so many ways, the SCCU has helped us all build our community.

I am honoured to serve the CCBA as its president for the next two years. I am deeply grateful to Clark Hamilton who was the inaugural President of the association and served for seven years. Clark and the past Board of Directors devoted many hours and resources contributing to the vision that makes the CCBA the successful organization it is today, setting the stage for other newer members like myself to step into the role.

Our Executive Director, Jennifer Evans, ensures all of our members get the best possible value from our association. Jennifer has vast knowledge in business development and marketing and is also fluent in French and Spanish; she is a positive asset to the CCBA and we are thrilled to have her on board. Her untiring effort to making the Home and Cottage Show a success must be applauded.

I am excited about the year ahead and am committed to working with our 2014 board. Our vision for 2014 is to recruit, engage and retain our members, listening to their concerns and providing value back. Please contact me directly at 604-883-9551 days, 604-399-8549 evenings or via email at rjones@ ronasunshine.com; Jennifer Evans can be reached at 604- 989-2721 or email at exec@ coastbuilders.ca
